Secondary 6 Graduation Day 2021-22

On 8 July 2022, Kwun Tong Government Secondary School successfully hosted the S.6 Graduation Day at the school hall.

The school honoured to have Prof. Chung King Lam, Calvin as the Guest of Honour. Prof Chung graduated from KTGSS in 2009 where he had served as the Head Prefect. He completed his First and Masters degrees ,both in Geography and Resource Management,at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He attained his Doctoral Studies on Urban and Regional Planning at the University College London. Prof. Chung returned to The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2019 where he currently teaches undergraduate and post graduate courses in Political Economy, Urbanisation and Sustainable Development. His continuing field of research is Urban Planning and the Environmental Governance of China. He is a Fellow of Royal Geographical Society and an Associate Editor of the academic journal Asian Geographer. It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since he left KTGSS! Prof. Chung is a dynamic, youthful and inspirational speaker, who is a positive role model to the young people at KTGSS.

Prof. Chung urged all present to develop a questioning mindset that welcomed critical thinking, always asking questions in any given situation. He encouraged the new graduates to develop a growth mindset, looking for answers to the question “why?”  in everyday situations.

His simple questioning technique was displayed to the audience by simple demonstration on the current challenging situation that modern society finds themselves living in. His lively presentation was easily absorbed by the avid listeners who showed their approval by the approving nodding of their heads as he spoke.

Ms. Ip Lai Hung, the Principal shared a simple but insightful story about how hard work, if approached with pride and a willing positive attitude will reap more benefits than pessimism and complaining. Using the example of construction workers toiling away at physical labour, she was able to reassure the new graduates that if they faced their generation’s anxieties and challenges with a positive attitude, they would have a greater prospect of success and positive achievement.

Speaking on behalf of the all the S6 students, Li Lam Yau from S.6A delivered the vote of thanks to parents, teachers and care givers, who had helped this cohort of graduates achieve this milestone. She reflected on the anxieties, threats and fears surrounding the logistical arrangements of the HKDSE Examinations and highlighted how students had overcome them, displaying great resilience. This tenacious and unwavering persistence was deeply admirable and valuable in their respective futures.

This celebratory rite of passage came to an end with jubilant singing of the school song and the taking of memorial group photos on stage. The appearance of the overhead drone camera filled the school hall with cheers as the packed audience gave a rousing cheer to the new graduates.
