What is Design & Technology?

We live in a changing world. Newly designed products always replace old products. Design plays a very important part for the improvement of the quality of our life. For example, the means of transport, communications system and our living environment, etc. can be improved by means of design. Design can also affect our emotion by creating new visual effects and artwork. This can be seen in some interior and artistic designs. Design & Technology was introduced into Hong Kong secondary schools in 1987. Students are taught to do design work with different materials and to apply their knowledge of "Design" and "Technology" in problem-solving activities. In fact, design is a process of problem solving. Technology means technical studies. The curriculum of 'Design & Technology' not only stresses the manipulation of tools, but also emphasizes the suitable choice of materials as well as creativity during the project works.

Design & Technology in Our School

In our school, we believe that the subjects: Design & Technology and Home Economics are suitable for both boys and girls.

Because of the limited resources in the first term the boys take Design & Technology while the girls take Home Economics, they swap in the second term.
